The Lazy Lacey, a soft and luxurious scarf conceived while being completely lazy and happy at the beach. The example is made from a very soft slightly variegated worsted weight wool instead of the traditional lace weight yarn. The combination of worsted weight wool and intricate lace stitch pattern (interpreted from Wendy Bernard’s awesome book of stitches “Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary”) makes this a perfect in-between weather scarf to throw on when you just don’t know what the weather is going to do. Knit this short, knit this long; just knit it!
The scarf pattern is completely charted as well as completely written out, you choose what parts of the pattern will best help you to create the end product. Further explanation of the charted stitches are included.
Skill level: intermediate
Supplies: Size 9US needles, 4 place markers, Suggested yarn (worsted): Manos Del Uruguay Maxim, colorway in example: Coquina, Approximately 1.3 skeins or 300 yards.
Gauge: Any, you are literally knitting a long rectangle, it all depends on taste. I suggest you do a repeat in the yarn you like and see what develops.
WRITTEN PATTERN: This pattern is worked flat with the odd rows = right side and even rows = (purl) wrong side.
Cast on 33 stitches.
Row 1: k, yo, k2tog, k3, skp, yo, pm, k, yo, k2tog, k3, skp, yo, pm, k, yo, k2tog, k3, skp, yo, pm, k, yo, k2tog, k3, skp, yo, pm, k.
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k2, yo, k2tog, k, skp, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k, skp, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k, skp, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k, skp, yo, k2.
Row 4: purl
Row 5: k3, yo, s2kp2, yo, k5, yo, s2kp2, yo, k5, yo, s2kp2, yo, k5, yo, s2kp2, yo, k3.
Row 6: purl
Row 7, 9, 11, and 13: k, k2tog, k, yo, k, yo, k, skp, k, k2tog, k, yo, k, yo, k, skp, k, k2tog, k, yo, k, yo, k, skp, k, k2tog, k, yo, k, yo, k, skp, k.
Row 8, 10, 12 and 14: purl
Repeat rows 1-14 until scarf desired length
Bind off loosely. Cut yarns and weave in ends, enjoy!

skp is: slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit 1 stitch then purl the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch.

Should this be “pass” the slipped stitch over the knit stitch? I’ve never heard of purling a stitch over a stitch.

Yes, you can call it a “pass” this is just referring to hand position. It’s a bit picky thing, passing it over the stitch should suffice. This is just how it was taught to me. Wink wink

s2kp2 is: slip 2 stitches as if to purl, knit 1 stitch, then purl the 2 slipped stitches over the 1 knitted stitch. This is a centered decrease by 2.
